City Centre Promotes The Spirit Of Halloween
Who doesn’t love a parade? Young Grande Prairie trick-or-treaters sure do!
They turned out in the hundreds on Oct. 26 to the DownTown Association’s annual gathering of witches, goblins, ghosts, zombies, princesses, and superheroes.
“We love helping our families celebrate Halloween in a safe and fun way,” says Executive Director Wendy Bosch. “It’s always a treat to see the kids come out and have a blast in their costumes.”
After judging of costumes at the Montrose Cultural Centre, the parade made its way down 100 Ave. between 99 St. and 101 St. Kids up to 12 were eligible to win prizes in the contest.
The fun continued back at the Cultural Centre for hot dogs, cookies and juice.
Snap Shot Studio was on hand to capture photos of participants.
A partnership with the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum allowed the fun to be spread to Wembley. Shuttles transported parade participants to the venue where Al Lukusta Day was underway. The museum also had a costume contest and there were fossil tables, free gallery visits and a creepy crawly lecture to enjoy.
“Our thanks goes out to everyone who made this event a special treat for the kids,” says Bosch. “We love promoting community gatherings and our businesses get joy seeing all the youngsters flocking into the City Centre. They enjoy giving back. It was a fun way to close off Small Business Week.”
City Enforcement Services provided traffic control, Grief Support staff comprised the contest judges, fabulous volunteers, and Jeffrey’s Café provided catering.
