UPCOMING DOWNTOWN EVENTS
Oct. 29 - HALLOWEEN WALKING PARADE
Begins at 11am in the Teresa Sargent Hall in the Montrose Cultural Centre. Goes South down 99 St. to 100 Ave. turns West to 101 St. crosses the street and heads East back to 99 St. turns North & returns to the Cultural Centre.
We anticipate about 400 kids so get your candy ready. “Spot & Dot” the friendly Dalmatians will give you a few minutes heads up before the kids arrive. Have your treats at your front door.

Nov. 18 - VEGAS NIGHT - open until 11pm. This is traditionally a huge regional draw, so get your game of chance (cut the cards, roll the dice, spin the wheel) for discounts ready and your staffing in place.
This year we will, once again, be offering a trip for 2 to Vegas. If you want a draw box & will be open until 11pm, let us know.

Nov. 18 - STUFF A BUS at Bama Furniture.

Dec. 4 - SANTA PARADE - Let’s welcome the Jolly Old Gent in downtown style. Starts at 1pm.

Dec 5 & 6 - The 34th Annual FESTIVAL OF CAROLS will be held on December 5 & 6 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, starting at 7:30pm Each evening features different groups of adult & youth community musical groups performing Christmas selections. The performances are FREE to the public, but attendees are encouraged to share in the spirit of the season with a donation to the Salvation Army Kettle campaign. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Dec. - MARY CHRISTMAS & ELF ON THE SHELF are back. Watch for the memo asking if you want to participate.

This is a fun filled family holiday event featuring the cast of Cirque Musica together with all-time favourite holiday songs performed by a live orchestra. The concert is a visual experience where audiences journey into a world of high-flying adventure with amazing acrobats, aerialists, hilarious hijinks and holiday cheer, too! The show blends the spell-binding grace and dare-devil athleticism of today’s greatest circus performers with the sensory majesty of the greatest holiday music of all time. SNOW REMOVAL The City of Grande Prairie Bylaw states: Every occupant, and in case there is no occupant, then the owner of every house, shop, building, lot, parcel of land or other property and every person having charge or care of any public building abutting on a sidewalk in the City of Grande Prairie, shall remove or cause to be removed and cleared away, snow, ice, dirt, debris or other materials from any sidewalk adjoining the property owned or occupied by them, such removal to be completed within twenty-four (24) hours of the time when the snow, ice, dirt or other obstruction was formed or deposited thereon.

No person shall remove snow or ice from a sidewalk by causing it to be placed upon the roadway adjacent to such sidewalk except to the extent that removal of the snow and ice to private property is impractical.

In default of any person complying with this by-law, the City of Grande Prairie may provide for the clearing of the sidewalk and any expenses incurred by the City of Grande Prairie in so doing shall be charged against the owner or occupant of the property adjacent to the sidewalk as a debt due and owing to the City.

(Try and push the snow away from the curb gutter - to keep customers from getting stuck.)

Dominion Lending will be fundraising for Bikes for Kids in partnership with the local Firefighters Charitable Foundation which hold the Sparky’s Secret Wish Campaign , each year. They quietly deliver these wishes to families in need, mid-December. They are looking to raise 80 bikes.
The presentation will be made to the Firefighters Dec. 8 from noon to 2pm, in the back parking lot of Dominion Lending. The firemen will bring a fire truck. The Community is invited to attend and show support. You can donate by sponsoring a bike or multiple bikes or donate a specific amount towards a bike.

OR Dominion Lending will be having a wine auction. You can enter a team of 4 or as an individual for a chance to win wine. Entry fee is $25/person or $100/team. 50% of your entry fee will go towards the Bikes, the other 50% will buy the wine. The winning team will receive 50% of the win, 2nd place will receive 25% of the wine, & 3rd place will receive 15% of the wine.

DOWNTOWN CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

October 18, 2016
The contractor has assured us that they are committed to completing the project through the 100 Avenue intersection.
If weather dictates that all work is not completed, they will hard surface any incomplete portions.
A winter shut down plan including water and sewer tie-ins and surface tie-ins for the sidewalks and roads on 101 Street North of 100 Avenue has been approved.
